Redirects
Send visitors from your old site's addresses (for example WordPress) to the right page in your store.
Overview
Store settings → Redirects (/en/store/redirects) keeps a list of old addresses and where each one should go now. When you move from WordPress or another platform, old links in Google, emails and other sites keep working: the visitor lands on the new page instead of "page not found".
A redirect only applies to an address that would otherwise show "page not found". It never replaces a page that exists in your store.
Add a redirect
- Click Add redirect.
- Old address: the path of the old page, starting with
/(for example/2019/05/old-post). You can paste the full old URL; only its path is kept. - New target: where visitors should go.
- Choose the Type and, if you want, Keep the query string, then click Save.
Upper and lower case matter in the old address (/Shoes and /shoes are different). A trailing / does not matter. The old address cannot contain ? or #: only the path is matched.
Where a redirect can point
- A page in your store: a path starting with
/, for example/insights/new-postor/p/about. This works on every store address. - A full https:// address: for example
https://blog.example.com/post. This works only on your own custom domain. On the shared store address (shop.orderinchat.com) such a redirect is ignored and visitors see "page not found", so our shared address can never be used to send people to another site.
For safety, targets with // at the start, a user name (name@…), backslashes, line breaks or other schemes (http:, javascript:, data: …) are refused, also when they are %-encoded.
301 or 302
- 301 Permanent: tells search engines the page has moved for good. Browsers remember a 301 for a long time, so a later change may not show in a browser that already followed it.
- 302 Temporary: use it while you test. When everything is right, switch the redirect to 301.
Keep the query string
When on, the original ?… part of the address (for example campaign tags like ?utm_source=…) is added to the new address.
Paste a list
Under Paste a list, write one redirect per line: old address, then new target, separated by a space, tab or comma. You can add 301 or 302 as a third column; lines without one use the type you choose below the box.
/old-page /new-page
/shop/old-item /item-slug 302
https://old-site.com/about/ /p/about
Click Check list to see a report for every line, then Save to add the lines that are ready. Lines with a problem are skipped. A line whose old address already exists replaces that redirect.
Limits
- Up to 500 redirects per store.
- No chains: a target cannot be another redirect's old address, and an old address cannot be another redirect's target. Point each old address straight at the final page.
- Your store's home page (
/) cannot be redirected. - Changes can take up to about 1 minute to apply.
Troubleshooting
- The redirect does not work: check that no page in your store already uses that address (redirects only apply where the store would show "page not found"), and wait about a minute after saving.
- A full https:// target is ignored: it only works on your own custom domain.
- The old target still opens: your browser remembered a 301. Test in a private window, or use 302 while testing.
